In the media industry, contracts may also have confidentiality and exclusivity terms written into them.

confidentiality contract

a confidentiality contract is a company privacy contract. a confidentiality contract will is enforced by the law that the employee is not allowed to explain or tell any information about the production of the television show or film until a certain date or further notice. This means even the little details like names, plot or the employee’s involvement legally cannot be stated in writing or other recorded means. This is really needed in maintaining secrecy on media productions. if anything is let out the person can be fined or fired or both.

An example of this is the Star Trek film, there was confidentiality obligations used in the film. the public knew that there was going to be a remake of Star Trek however it was filmed on a closed set and the appearance of the characters was also hidden from the public.they use confidentiality by not allowing cameras or video cameras on set, this is so that nobody can show spoilers or photographs of the set.

Exclusivity contracts

An exclusivity contract is when two separate parties agree to work together exclusively for a certain period of time. exclusivity on the other hand is a term used in contracts to ensure by law that an employee only works with one company. Payment can be suspended and employment terminated if someone breaks their exclusivity agreement by working with a competitor or other company during the period of employment covered by the contract.

a production company secures the rights to produce an idea into a film or a tv show. a common exclusivity contracts given out is when a production company secures the right to produce a film adaptation from a book. An example of this would be The Hunger Games movie.the contracts used can determine what information about the production is released and who has the right to produce the production.
